Donna Rixmann
Gentle Yoga
Donna has taught yoga since 2002 and draws from various
yoga styles to design classes that are ever changing. She enjoys introducing
students to the various aspects of a yogic lifestyle beyond the physical work
which include; pranayama (breathing practice), meditation, chanting, and the
encouragement of healthy living practices. Her style of teaching has been
described as nurturing and light-hearted, and she believes that seekers at all
levels should enjoy a yoga practice geared to their unique needs.
The Gentle Yoga class at the Sacramento Yoga Center (Tuesdays 11:15-12:15)
is geared to older individuals (or anyone with chronic physical issues) who
may need modifications to enjoy a yoga pose fully. Every student begins
with the use of a chair to assist in moving freely from pose to pose. Over
time, students can elect to not use the chair and switch to yoga blocks.
Instruction is given for many levels of beginner within the same class
session. Her goal is that each student have a positive yoga class
experience. Check with Donna if you are uncertain whether this class is
appropriate for you.
Her teachers have included: Georg Feuerstein (Meditation and Yoga
History/Philosophy), Patricial Walden (Iyengar), Judith Lasater (Restorative),
John Friend (Anusara), Thomas Ashley-Farrand (chanting), Marc Halpern (Ayurveda),
Eleanor Criswell (Somatic Yoga), Mark Katz (anatomy of yoga), Janice Gates
(teaching methodology), Tia Ashonoah (Viniyoga) & Richard Rosen (pranayama).
Her 700-hour teacher training certified her to teach multi-style yoga. In
addition to her formal yoga teacher training, She has also studied in
Allahabad, India with the Himalayan Institute.
She is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists and a
Registered Yoga Teacher at the 500-hour level (RYT 500) through the Yoga
